‘Accountable Governance Pathways’ – A SABI Learning Product

SABI’s work with communities has highlighted the lack of clarity for citizens regarding the accountable governance structures that are in place to oversee education and health service delivery in Sierra Leone.  This uncertainty makes it difficult for citizens to raise concerns relating to service delivery, and as such is a key inhibitor to citizens engaging with the state.

To address this problem, SABI worked with communities, ward councillors, paramount chiefs, frontline service providers and representatives of national and district level ministries, departments and agencies to map out the accountable governance pathways that should be in operation.

There are challenges within these structures and, at times, the relationships between them are unclear and affected by power imbalance, but it has nonetheless been helpful to citizens to have the pathways mapped out.
